SIMULACRUM®, or, a Science Fiction Fable, as we referred to it, was a short script Logan Brown wrote and decided to show to long time friend and collaborator Clark Freeman. Logan and Clark previously acted together in the film Missing Persons, directed by Andy Mitton and Jon Howard, and Logan had starred in STEVES, a horror short written and directed by Clark. Guess Logan felt he had to return the favor, because he sent Clark the script one day and said, “...so, I was thinking that maybe we could work on this”.
Clark read the script, had a little freak out, and then said, “YES! As soon as possible!” Originally planning to shoot in New York City in the summer of ‘08, Clark flew out to visit. Not a frame was shot, but they came up with the game plan that paved the way for the busiest two weeks Logan has ever spent in Los Angeles.
SIMULACRUM® was shot in four days, aided by the talented cinematographer Dave McGrory and his Gaffer Mickey Jechort. The entire movie was filmed in one location, and by the time we had wrapped, our editor, Jon Howard, had a rough assembly of the entire movie. . .including most FX shots. A stripped down eleven-minute-and-thirty-second version of the film was finished six days later, and then the sound and music process unfolded...
While doing sound clean up, engaging the amazing John Elliott write our score, and having Radiohead graciously license us one of their songs, we were already submitting to film festivals. Eager to premiere at The 10th Annual Lake Arrowhead Film Festival, we have already been informed that we are nominated for their coveted Best Short Film of the Festival Award! Amazing what a couple of people, four days, and a camera can do!
Please keep checking back to this website for more updates on the status of SIMULACRUM®. We plan on travelling the world with this film, and hopefully find a mutually beneficial partnership to turn this moral and ethical quandary into a full length feature film. Thanks to everyone for supporting us, and please contact us. . .about anything! We look forward to hearing from you!
